It's a New Year - Make an Investment in Your Future
DeAnna Leahy, CCE, Sunroc Corporation
Education is the most powerful investment you can make for your future and it can make a lasting difference in your life. Furthering your education is the best investment you can make for yourself. The investment strategy involves a commitment to continuing education and the payoff begins with the receipt of an NACM designation. Holding a designation can open the door to employment opportunities that otherwise might not have been possible to obtain. An NACM designation looks great on a resume, which could potentially translate into a higher salary potential. Obtaining a designation is a sign of commitment, a vested interest in self-improvement, and the willingness to take your education and abilities to new heights.

Continuing education also allows someone who already holds a designation an opportunity to update their skills. Learning in the credit field never stops. Participation in continuing education allows individuals a chance to expand their skill-set and develop themselves professionally. Continuing education allows credit professionals the opportunity to stay current with the latest developments, skills, and new technologies required for their field. Credit professionals also require continuing education to be able to comply with changes in rules, regulations, and laws that affect the credit industry. Credit Managers must continue to develop the skills necessary for ever-changing environments and keep abreast of their fields, so they don't lag behind their peers.

Classes begin in January for the Spring semester. There are scholarships available to provide financial assistance to business credit professionals striving to continue their education. The application for scholarships can be found at http://www.nacmint.com/education.php. For those students that live outside the Salt Lake Valley, you can also attend class remotely, right from your office or home. Remote classroom training provides most all the same experiences of being physically in the classroom without having to travel long distances to class.

If you are willing to commit the time and effort, a lifetime of benefits is yours for the taking. "Invest in yourself, in your education. There's nothing better." - Sylvia Porter.
