Mark Jones Retires
Shane Inglesby, CCE, Geneva Rock Products, Inc.

After 28 years of working in credit, Mark Jones will be retiring from Geneva Rock Products/Clyde Companies at the end of January.

Mark applied at the suggestion of a neighbor who knew the company was hiring for an accounts receivable and credit manager position. Since the company he was working for was going out of business, he thought it would be worth checking out as he was seeking more stable work.

Mark graduated from Brigham Young University majoring in psychology with a minor in business. While going to school and raising a young family, Mark worked for a variety of businesses including Mervyn's and the Osmond Studios. Mark also worked in advertising where he promoted live theatrical productions.

The most memorable part of Mark's work were the relationships he enjoyed at Geneva Rock. He considers his greatest work challenge to be limiting the number of accounts that went legal requiring the expertise of an attorney. He considers his greatest accomplishment to be surviving this long as a credit manager.

He considers his partnering with NACM to be one of his greatest assets while working in credit. Industry trade group meetings were invaluable and "saved the company's bacon" on numerous occasions with information that helped Mark make more informed decisions. Mark is also appreciative of how helpful the NACM staff has been in providing needed information and training to help him do a better job.

Mark is an avid reader. He has enjoyed reading many self-help books over the years. He doesn't have one book that necessarily stands out, but he knows he has learned from every book he has read. He abides by the adage "Happiness is an inside job. Don't assign anyone else that much power over your life." To go along with that, he believes "attitude is everything, pick a good one" is a helpful mantra in guiding his life.

Once retired, Mark plans to take care of some tasks around his home, enjoy life, visit family and go on two surfing trips to California before year's end. He also plans to serve a mission for his church while, in the meantime, continuing to serve in a church assignment that requires much of his free time.

In credit there are always challenges and he does not plan to go quietly. He wants to continue to do his best until the very end.

We appreciate the contributions Mark has given to our credit community and wish him the best during his retired years.
