ICEL Recap - Test Your Credit Knowledge
Shane B. Inglesby, CCE, Geneva Rock Products

Many would disagree with the possibility of putting the words "fun", "games" and "credit" in the same sentence. But, leave it to ICEL to find a way to not only defy reason, but to prove that its members can make games and have fun with the credit profession.

ICEL members continued their annual tradition of celebrating summer at the July meeting by enjoying a diversion where credit topics and knowledge were put to the test in the format of the game show Jeopardy. Melissa Mickelsen, ICEL Committee Chair, presided over the festivities and had the "challenge" of reigning in its competitors. Competition was rather fierce as six teams competed for the victor's crown. Only two hundred points separated the first from the third place teams.

This year's categories included Principles of Business Credit, Accounting, Financial Analysis, Business Law and Credit Law. Seasoned veterans were stumped by some of the questions which made for an even more competitive environment on "close" calls. (Some shunned answer providers threatened to rumble afterwards but there have been no reported parking lot altercations.)

First place team members were rewarded with gift cards to Red Robin. Second place team members received gift cards to Zupa's and third place received gift cards to ColdStone. All tables received periodic positive reinforcement when correct answers were provided in the form of snacks and candy. A couple of wrong answers even received their own special rewards in the form of Dum Dum suckers and Airheads taffy.

The obvious intent of the activity was to have some fun while testing one another's knowledge of credit. Many in attendance left the proceedings recognizing the need to brush up on some of the more technical aspects of credit. If nothing else, the event proved that seeking knowledge in the field of credit should be a never-ending pursuit for all credit professionals.
